A Month Long Celebration
With September comes the end of Summer as well as Labor Day, going back to school sales, and the 3rd year anniversary of the comedy showcase “The Josh and Josh Show” run by Josh Haness, and Josh Weinstein. Every Thursday for the past 3 years the Joshes have put on one of the best comic showcases in Los Angeles. Josh Haness, and Josh Weinstein are both actors and comedians who originally met in New York City. While in New York both comedians ran their own showcases on different ends of the city. After both Joshes made the entertainment pilgrimage to Los Angeles they decided to run a show together. Josh and Josh both cut their comedy teeth in New York, and they wanted a venue that made them feel at home. They found their New York venue at Bar Lubitsh, which is located at 7702 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood, CA. Their awesome lineups have caused “The Josh and Josh Show” to be a fixture at Bar Lubitsch every Thursday for the last 3 years. To celebrate week after week of delivering some of the best comedy in Los Angeles, “The Josh and Josh Show” is declaring the entire month of September their anniversary month.
The Josh and Josh Show always delivers a great lineup of comics every week. At this particular show there was Greg Proops of Whose Line is it Anyway fame. Greg Proops is no stranger to Bar Lubitsh because he hosts his podcast The Smartest Man in the World at Bar Lubitsch on Wednesday nights. Todd Glass who was a finalist on season 3 of Last Comic Standing also graced the stage with his brash form of Stand-up. Joselyn Hughes who is a seasoned sketch comedy actress, and a writer for Tosh.0 made an appearance talking about the ups and downs of life, and the pursuit of happiness. Doug Perkins, a writer for the Sports Show with Norm MacDonald, did a set that was so dry that Norm McDonald himself probably would have been jealous. This great line-up is only a taste of what The Josh and Josh show has in store as Dimitri Martin and Sarah Silverman are lined up for the September showcases.
One of the Comedians who performed at the Josh and Josh show is Doug Perkins. Doug is a stand-up comedian, director, and writer. His writing credits include the recently cancelled “Sports Show with Norm McDonald. He is now writing for a new show hosted by Betty White. Doug’s standup could be considered bone dry as the audience bubbles with laughter at the dead-pan delivery of some very clever punchlines. Some of Doug’s influences are the dead pan man himself Norm McDonald, and the sketch of Mr. Show. Doug. O Perkins can be found on facebook, and his musings can be found on Twitter under the name @doctordoug.
Doug Perkins also runs his own comedy showcase called “The Comedy Carhole” in Santa Monica, CA. To find out more information about the Comedy Car Hole you can go to comedycarhole.com, and you can also follow them on twitter at @comedycarhole. The comedy car hole has a speakeasy vibe to it because it’s set in the garage of a house located between the 405 and the 10 freeways in Santa Monica. Comedy car hole been running for 11 years now, and was originally started because the originators thought the comedy scene in Los Angeles was in a word “lame”, and wanted to find an alternative stage for their subversive comedy. Their shows are once a month, and are usually on a Friday. Their most recent show was August 26th, and I will keep you updated on when the next show is. Watch the interview below with writer, comedian and runner of one of the most underground comedy showcases in CA, Doug Perkins.
Another comedian that performed at the Josh and Josh show is Todd Glass. At the beginning of August he performed his one hour comedy special that will be airing on comedy central soon. Todd Glass also hit the big time with his new pod cast “The Todd Glass Show now on the Nerdist network. Todd also has a comedy CD available on itunes called Thin Pig. Todd can also be seen on funny or die with his series of videos called Bottle Discipline, which chronicles Todd giving his own personal style of discipline to the more annoying aspects of humanity. His style of comedy is to point out the absurdity of life in the style of Don Rickles, which is insulting yet adorable.
The creators of the Josh and Josh Show, Josh Weinstein, and Josh Haness, are both shooting stars. Josh Weinstein produced and directed the short film “The Support Group”, which made a splash at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and was later picked up by HBO. He has also had roles in Spike Lee’s Bamboozled, the television show Bones, and the new film Contagion, starring Matt Damon. Josh Haness is a theater actor originally from the great state of Florida. He has a fancy free style of comedy that makes the audience giggle with antics that involve parodies of his neighbors and fanciful songs about retail chains. Josh Haness has been seen performing at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, The Los Angeles Comedy showcase Frolic, and can be seen on HBO’s Funny or Die Presents. Watch the video below to check out the history of Josh and Josh, and why September is the month to check out The Josh and Josh Show.
As Stefan says “Los Angeles hottest club is Bar Lubtisch” featuring “The Josh And Josh show every Thursday night. This is not family programming it’s just damn funny.
