Showgirls: Now in Drag
“Showgirls”, heralded as one of the worst movies ever made, is now a musical. This fabulous flop has now become even more fabulous with the stage adaptation “Showgirls in Drag”. With all of your favorite characters played by drag queens “Showgirls in Drag” is sure to have more drama, and even more attitude than the original. This glittery parody has all the classic scenes from the original “Showgirls” that caused this box office disaster to become the cult classic it is today.
“Showgirls in Drag” is in good hands with director Stephen Guarino. He came into cult status with his role on “The Big Gay Sketch Show” on the Logo channel. He also appeared in “Confessions of a Shopaholic”, and the ABC show “Happy Endings”. As a stand-up comedian Stephen is no stranger to the stage. His theater career includes co-creating the off Broadway hit “The Nuclear Family”. Stephen’s experience on the stage and off is sure to bring the cult status of “Showgirls” up to the level of high art with “Showgirls in Drag”.
The other half of the creative team behind “Showgirls in Drag” is producer Beth Wheatley. Beth is the Entertainment Supervisor for Universal Studios. When Beth isn’t at Universal she’s stage managing outrageous theater experiences including “Point Break Live”. She was also a key figure in this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival, and 2011’s Outfest. With her list of credits, and ability to take charge you can tell that Beth Wheatley really knows how to put on a show.
Playing the part of the not so innocent Nomi is one of L.A.’s most fabulous icon’s Willam Belli. Willam is a triple threat with having a list of IMDB credits longer than my arm, but Willam also wrote and produced the industrious short Tranny McGuyver. Fresh off of the NYC’s Fringe Fest’s for Jersey Shoresical, Willam is sure to make Elizabeth Berkley proud with a fabulous portrayal of Nomi.
Rounding out the “Showgirls in Drag” are Detox ICunt as Crystal Connors. Detox Icunt is a tour-de-force in Los Angeles and has cameos in Rihanna’s “Disturbia” music video, and Kesha’s yet to be released Backstabber music video. Barbie Q plays Molly The Narrator, and Vicki Vox can’t be outdone as Big Mama.
